ASSA's Hatchery and Cultivation Manual for the red seaweed Asparagopsis now available
FutureFeed is pleased to share the Hatchery and Cultivation Manual for Asparagopsis recently released by the Australian Sustainable Seaweed Alliance (ASSA).
The Manual provides a comprehensive overview of best-practice procedures covering seasonality, brood stock collection and hatchery techniques ranging from contamination management to reproduction. This manual covers both the colder-water species Asparagopsis Armata and warmer-water species Asparagopsis Taxiformis.
The publication of the Manual represents an important asset to support the cultivation of the red seaweed Asparagopsis which is a developing industry, driven by growing global demand for methane-reducing livestock feed additives.
“FutureFeed welcomes the release of the Manual which we believe will become a valuable asset for our existing and new production partners to build upon their hatchery and cultivation processes” said FutureFeed’s CEO, Alex Baker.
This manual was produced by ASSA's National Hatchery Network, a collaboration between ASSA, James Cook University and the South Australian Research and Development Institute. The project was funded by FRDC through funding from the Australian Government’s Developing Australia’s Seaweed Farming Grant Program.
