2026 Publication “Asparagopsis meal reduces enteric methane emissions of feedlot beef cattle without impact on productivity or meat and carcass quality”

Available in Livestock Science in January 2026 our most recent paper titled “Asparagopsis meal reduces enteric methane emissions of feedlot beef cattle without impact on productivity or meat and carcass quality”

The study showed that inclusion of the present batch Asp-Meal at 0.4 % DMI [30 mg CHBr3/kg DMI] was confirmed as effective at reducing enteric CH4 emissions and yielded safe meat and edible offal for human consumption.

Highlights

Asp-Meal significantly reduced methane emissions in a commercial feedlot setting.

Carcass grading, meat eating quality and food safety were not affected by Asp-Meal.

Asp-Meal had no negative impact on animal health or rumen epithelium.

Feed use efficiency differences for breeds was detected.

Consistent with all other beef cattle studies, no residual CHBr3 in beef products occurred and levels of I- and Br- were well below published values for human consumption.
